HS BASEBALL HEAD COACH ANNOUNCED

Bryan Hayes Named PHS Baseball Head Coach

Perry High School recently named Bryan Hayes as the head coach for the PHS baseball program. He is no stranger to Perry baseball and has eagerly accepted the opportunity to step back into the head coaching role, previously held by Bret Bouher. He will continue to coach softball and teach Musical Theater and Social Studies in the junior high.

He joined Perry Public Schools in 2002 as a teacher and coach. You’ll typically find him at the ballpark in the fall and the spring, coaching softball and baseball, or officiating games in his free time. He’s been the head coach for the Perry Lady Maroon softball team for the past 23 seasons.

For the baseball program, he served as the Maroons high school assistant baseball coach from 2002 to 2010 under the leadership of Ray Oakes. He was the head baseball coach in 2012 and 2023. His resume also includes coaching the junior high baseball squad.

During his 23-year tenure as a proud Maroon, Coach Hayes has racked up many accolades. Most recently, his Lady Maroons were crowned the OSSAA Class 3A Fast-Pitch Softball State Champions, a first in program history. Hayes was also named the 2023 NWOBCA Baseball Coach of the Year, 2023 Middle Class (3A-4A) Softball Coach of the Year, the All-State West softball game coach, the 2023-24 NFHS/OSSAA Softball Coach of the Year, and will be inducted into the OHSFSCA Hall of Fame this month.

Hayes is originally from Imperial, Nebraska. He played college baseball at Abilene Christian University and earned his bachelor’s degree in education.

Prior to landing in Perry, he coached at Stillwater, Frontier, and a couple schools in Texas, making a grand total career of 30 years in education and athletics.

Kade Gottschalk will continue as the assistant baseball coach for the Maroons.
