2024 All-Conference Basketball Team Announced

The 89er Conference recently released All-Conference basketball accolades for the 2023-2024 season.

PHS senior, Kennedy Hight was announced the Conference MVP. Hight has been averaging 20.2 points per game, 5.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.4 steals per game. She’s been having a great senior season after recovering from ACL knee surgery last year. She hit 1,000 career points scored, she was named the Homeland Scholar Athlete of the Week earlier this season, and made the Wheat Capital All-Tournament team.

Hight will continue her basketball career at Northwestern Oklahoma State University next year.

Coach Carson Mathews is in her second season at the helm for the Lady Maroons. She commented, “It’s been great having Kennedy back on the floor. She’s a fierce competitor who wants to win. She’s so deserving of this honor and I’m glad other coaches recognized that.”

The Lady Maroons added one more to the All-Conference team with junior, Sarah Davison. Davison moved into Perry this year and shows great hustle and aggressiveness on the court. She is averaging 15.6 points per game, 5.8 rebounds, 2.8 steals, and 1.2 assists this season.

"Sarah has been an incredible addition to our team. She works so hard and has been an incredible teammate and leader,”added Coach Mathews.

Announced as All-Conference honorable mention for the Maroons were senior, Hayden Garfield, and junior, Whelan Carson.

Garfield has battled injuries the past couple of years, but has bounced back to finish strong for his senior season.

“Hayden is resilient and has been a hardworking teammate on and off the court,” said Maroons head coach Kyle Bengs. “Whelan really stepped up big for us this year and has been a powerhouse under the basket.”

The 89er Conference All Star game is scheduled for March 4 at Perry High School. Girls game will be at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game at 7:30 p.m.

Schools included in the 89er Conference are Alva, Blackwell, Chisholm, Frontier, Newkirk, Perry, and Tonkawa.
