Hight makes All-State; Hayes named Coach of the Year

Perry High School senior Kennedy Hight was selected to the All-State Softball Middle West Team (3A-4A) as the No. 1 middle infielder. The announcement was made on Monday by the Oklahoma High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association. 
 
She was also named the top Oklahoma Region 1 All-Region middle infielder.

Hight had a stellar senior season breaking records. She set the following PHS softball program school records:
• Batting Average - Season .516 (was .509)
• Career Batting Average .492 (was .446)
• Career At-Bats 510 (was 455)
• Career Runs Scored 213 (was 143)
• Career Hits 251 (was 196)
• RBIs - Season 46 (was 43)
• Career RBIs 142 (was 133)
• Career Stolen Bases 142 (was 73)
• Runs Scored- Season 64
• Hits - Season 70

In addition, head coach of the Lady Maroons, Bryan Hayes, was named the Middle Class (3A-4A) Coach of the Year and the All-State West game coach.
 
Hayes stated, "It is very difficult to get players on the All-State team as we have to compete with west schools like Washington, Tuttle, Blanchard, Newcastle, and Lone Grove. It’s a huge honor to be an All-State softball player and to be selected #1 is even more prestigious! Congrats to Kennedy Hight!” 
 
The All-State awards banquet is June 7 at Oklahoma Christian. The All-State softball game will be played on June 8, also at Oklahoma Christian.
 
The PHS softball program held their banquet last Wednesday, October 25 to celebrate a successful season. The following team awards were presented to Lady Maroons that evening:
 
Team Statistical Awards:
  • Defensive Fielding Percentage Leader: Sayben Owen .976
  • Pitcher ERA Award: Joely Kukuk 1.326 ERA
  • Batting Average Leader: Kennedy Hight .445 AVG
  • RBI Leader: Kennedy Hight 43 RBI
 
The Team Ballot Awards follow. These awards are voted on by their teammates and coaches:
  • Charlie Brown Award (Most Positive Teammate): Brooklenn Moses
  • Best Player Coach Award (Girls who did the best job coaching their teammates): Kennedy Hight, Alley Kennedy, Britton Blansett
  • Most Improved Player Award: Riley Skaggs
  • Guts and Glory Award: Alliyah Shrum and Emery Halford
  • Rookie of the Year: Sayben Owen
