Perry Junior High eighth grade students recently attended Discovery Day at Meridian Technology Center in Stillwater, where they had the opportunity to explore career pathways, learn about technical education programs, and participate in hands-on activities.
Approximately 1,100 students from across Oklahoma attended the event, giving students a firsthand look at the many opportunities available through career and technology education. The experience allowed Perry students to begin considering their interests and how those interests could connect to future education and career goals.
PJH Principal Mike Carmin emphasized the importance of introducing students to career possibilities early in their educational journeys.
"Our eighth-grade students had an incredible time exploring their futures at Meridian Technology Center's Discovery Day. This event offers our students an invaluable, hands-on window into real-world career paths and skilled trades right when they are beginning to think about their long-term goals. Our continued partnership with Meridian is essential to our mission; it bridges the gap between middle school academics and future workforce opportunities, showing our students exactly what they can achieve through hard work and career training."
The event also provided an opportunity for Perry students to connect with their own community. Several former and current Perry High School students who attend Meridian Technology Center were present to share information about their programs and experiences with the visiting students. Their participation offered eighth graders a chance to hear directly from students who have taken this next step in their educational journeys.
Perry Public Schools appreciates the partnership with Meridian Technology Center and the opportunity for students to explore career possibilities and discover new interests.
