PHS Boys Golf Qualifies Two For State!

The Perry High School boys golf team delivered a strong performance at the regional tournament this week, with two athletes earning spots in the upcoming state competition.

Sophomores Kian Thompson and Sawyer Vollmer both qualified for state after finishing as the second and third highest individual golfers not on qualifying teams. The regional format advances the top three teams along with the top three individual players not on the qualifying teams.

The Maroons narrowly missed qualifying as a team, falling just three strokes short after posting a two-round total of 649 in the 36-hole tournament.

Vollmer led Perry with rounds of 76 and 79 for a combined score of 155. Thompson followed with rounds of 82 and 79, finishing at 161 to secure his state berth. Ethan Cecil also turned in a strong performance, earning a medal as the fourth alternate qualifying individual with consistent rounds of 81 and 81 for a total of 162.

Additional scores for the Maroons included Mason Duke with a 179 (86, 93) and Cash Welliver with a 173 (78, 95).

Thompson and Vollmer will compete at the state tournament May 11–12 at The Coves Golf Club. The event will feature 36 holes of play on the opening day, followed by 18 holes the next day to conclude the tournament.

Despite the narrow miss as a team, Perry’s regional performance highlighted the strength and competitiveness of the Maroons, with multiple golfers delivering standout rounds on the course.
