Kolten Childers Named New PHS Boys Basketball Head Coach

Perry Public Schools is proud to announce the hiring of Kolten Childers as the new head coach of the Perry High School boys basketball program. In addition to his coaching duties, Childers will serve as a high school social studies teacher.

A 2019 graduate of Chisholm High School, Childers brings an impressive combination of playing experience, leadership, and coaching development to the Maroons program. During his high school career, he scored more than 1,500 points, earned OBCA All-State honors, and was a two-time All-Conference selection. He was also a key contributor to Chisholm’s 2018 89er Conference championship team.

Childers continued his academic and athletic career at Northern Oklahoma College-Enid, where he served as team captain during the 2019-2020 season. While at NOC, he was named an NJCAA Academic All-American and participated in the President’s Leadership Council from 2019 to 2021.

He later transferred to Oklahoma State University, where he has been an integral part of the women’s basketball program as a student assistant and graduate assistant. In those roles, Childers gained valuable experience in practice planning, film breakdown, player development, recruiting coordination, and game preparation. During his time at OSU, he has been part of three NCAA Tournament teams (2023, 2025, 2026).

PPS Athletic Director Mike Carmin shared, “Coach Childers brings a strong basketball background, a high level of energy, and a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the court. We are excited for him to lead our boys' basketball program and invest in our students in the classroom as well.”

Childers’ experience working with collegiate coaching staffs, combined with his firsthand understanding of Oklahoma high school basketball, positions him well to build a competitive and disciplined program at Perry High School.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Perry Public Schools,” Childers said. “I want to thank Mr. Wilson, Mr. Carmin, and Mr. Hight for the opportunity to lead this program and invest in the students. I look forward to building relationships with our players, students, and community, and creating a program that represents Perry with pride, toughness, and character. We will play a fun brand of basketball that the players will enjoy playing and the community will love to watch.”
