PHS Gifted & Talented Students Get Inside Look at City Government

Several students from the Perry High School gifted and talented class recently had a unique opportunity to step inside local government during a special visit with Lawrence Wortham, mayor of Perry.

During their visit to City Hall, the students were invited to sit in the official seats of city council members, giving them a firsthand look at where important decisions for the community are made. The experience offered a behind-the-scenes perspective on how local government operates and the responsibilities that come with civic leadership.

Mayor Wortham shared his personal journey to public service, speaking candidly about his path to becoming mayor and the duties he fulfills in the role. He also outlined the responsibilities of the city council and discussed several exciting developments and changes on the horizon for Perry.

Throughout the visit, Mayor Wortham emphasized the importance of community involvement. He encouraged the students to stay engaged, reminding them that even small efforts can make a meaningful difference in their hometown.
