PHS Students Attend Leadership Conference at OU

Six Perry High School student council representatives traveled to the University of Oklahoma this past weekend to participate in the High School Leadership Conference (HSLC), a unique, student-led event designed to inspire the next generation of leaders.

Hosted on the campus of the University of Oklahoma, the conference is organized entirely by college students. More than 100 OU students serve on the executive committee, planning and facilitating the event. Among them are Perry High School alumni Meagan Rames and Aubrey McVicker, who helped lead the conference efforts.

The mission of HSLC is to equip, empower and inspire high school juniors to return to their communities and make a positive impact. Through interactive sessions, team-building activities and leadership workshops, students are challenged to grow as leaders both in their schools and in their communities.

Representing Perry High School were Lily Matthiesen, Carson Nation, Riley Skaggs, Riley Barnes, Alexis Richardson and Katie Simpson. The six students embraced the opportunity to attend the conference, marking the first time Perry High School has sent representatives to the event.

Student Council sponsor Anna Schieffer expressed her pride in the group’s willingness to step outside their comfort zones. “This was our very first time sending students to this conference; I am so proud of them for being brave and stepping into an unknown experience to further their leadership!” Schieffer said. She went on to say that the students had a phenomenal experience and represented Perry with excellence throughout the weekend.

With new ideas, strengthened leadership skills and lasting memories, the six students returned home ready to make a positive impact at Perry High School and beyond!
