Five members of the Perry High School Student Council joined advisors and nearly 100 student leaders from across the state for a day of service and celebration at the Oklahoma Association of Student Council’s “Thunder Day of Service” in Oklahoma City.
The group volunteered at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, where they spent the afternoon packing food for the organization’s Backpack Program. This program provides nutritious, child-friendly food to students who may not have reliable access to meals outside of school.
Working alongside peers from schools across Oklahoma, the Perry students helped prepare more than 10,000 meals during the event. The large-scale effort highlighted the power of student leadership and community collaboration in addressing food insecurity throughout the state.
“This was an incredible opportunity for our students to make a tangible difference,” said PHS StuCo advisor Anna Schieffer. “They worked hard, represented Perry well, and showed what student leadership is all about.”
Following the volunteer service, participants attended an Oklahoma City Thunder game, celebrating a day dedicated to giving back. The experience combined service and fellowship, giving students the chance to connect with other young leaders while supporting an important cause.
The Perry High School Student Council members returned home inspired, proud of their impact, and motivated to continue serving their community.
